The notches indicate the choke tube constriction. A lower notch count means more constriction (tighter). A higher notch count means less constriction.
• 1 notch = Full
• 2 notches = Improved modified
• 3 notches = Modified
• 4 notches = Improved cylinder
• 5 notches = Cylinder (AKA: Skeet)
Maintenance may vary depending on the number of rounds fired, the type of powder in the shells, and the type of hunting for which the gun is used. Maintenance should be performed according to the information in your owner’s manual, here are general guidelines.
• Bore and exterior surfaces – Clean and oil after every outing
• Bolt rails and recoil plunger assembly – Oil at the end of the day
• Bolt and trigger mechanism – Clean powder fouling and debris as needed; frequency will vary, depending on the kind of ammo used
• Gun, including the recoil assembly – Detail-strip, clean, and oil at the end of the season or any time the gun is submerged in water
These chokes are recommended for steel shot:
• 3 notches = Modified
• 4 notches = Improved cylinder
• 5 notches = Cylinder (AKA: Skeet)
There is no benefit in shooting steel through a choke tighter than modified, and we do not recommend doing so.
These chokes are recommended for slugs:
• 4 notches = Improved cylinder
• 5 notches = Cylinder (AKA: Skeet)
A cylinder choke is recommended for shooting rifled slugs in a smooth-bore barrel. Sabot slugs should only be shot through fully rifled slug barrels.
It is not safe to shoot slugs through chokes tighter than those listed here.
The constriction on these chokes is very tight. Because steel does not compress, it can damage the barrel and choke as the shot charge passes through.
Schematics and part numbers for all parts are contained in the owner’s manual which came with your shotgun. Electronic versions of the manual are available for download from our website.
There are a few light target loads on the market that do not function very well in semi-automatic shotguns. (Some of these loads will say this directly on the box of shells). Four Peaks recommends using a minimum 12ga 2 ¾” 1 1/8 oz. @ 1250 FPS. 20ga 2 ¾” 7/8 oz. @ 1210 FPS. Anything lower has a varying effect on function.
Pump actions will do that, usually if fired from a rest and/or if the forend is not held firmly by the shooter. The shooter should exercise safe firearms handling and control the forearm to reduce unnecessary wear and recoil on the action.
Yes. Anytime a barrel is stamped 3″ it will be able to shoot both 2 3/4″ shells and 3″ shells unless otherwise stated.
Since Four Peaks is importing shotguns and not manufacturing shotguns, all shotguns imported must meet the ATF definition of “suitable for sporting purposes".
